Runway Avenue, the main spine road through Brabazon, has officially opened, marking a major step forward in how people travel to, from and around the neighbourhood.
The new route unlocks direct m4 Metrobus services through Brabazon, bringing reliable public transport links into the heart of the neighbourhood. Buses run every 20 minutes, with journey times of around 40 minutes to Bristol city centre and just 10 minutes to Bristol Parkway, making it easier for residents, workers and visitors to travel with or without a car.
Connecting Brabazon to the A38 Gloucester Road, Runway Avenue plays a central role in linking the neighbourhood into the wider transport network and supporting sustainable travel across north Bristol. The Metrobus route has been delivered in partnership with the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority and regional transport partners as part of wider investment in access to Brabazon.
A Boulevard Designed for All
Runway Avenue has been designed as a wide, tree‑lined boulevard, with generous pavements, dedicated cycle lanes and high‑quality landscaping. While the road is open to general traffic, its design and operation place clear priority on Metrobus services, walking and cycling.
Public Transport in Place from Day One
With the m4 Metrobus now running through the heart of Brabazon, everyday journeys become simpler. Whether commuting, heading into the city, meeting friends, shopping or visiting local destinations such as Mokoko Bakery, the service offers a convenient alternative to car travel.
This reflects Brabazon’s wider ambition to plan transport early, ensuring public transport fits naturally into daily routines rather than being added later.
Part of a Growing Network
The opening of Runway Avenue and the launch of direct Metrobus services build on wider progress at Brabazon, including the new Bristol Brabazon railway station, currently under construction and due to open in late 2026.
Together, these connections are helping shape Brabazon as a well‑connected place to live, work and visit with Runway Avenue forming the backbone that makes it possible.
